Rebel Book Club Pop-up at Ducie Street Warehouse | Throughout January 2022 — Rebel Book Club

Rebel Book Club

The lovely Ducie Street Warehouse has recently been our Rebel Book Club home when we meet in Manchester. So it was a real pleasure to contribute to their health and wellness month in January 2022 with a specially curated Rebel Reading Zone.

We curated 16 Rebel Book Club-recommended nonfiction reads with a health and wellness theme, by asking our members for nonfiction that’s had a big impact on their own health and wellness. We then created inserts so visitors could learn more about the books and why our members picked them. Then we placed them in a special reading zone within the venue with comfy sofas and blankets, so visitors could snuggle up with a book during the first wintery month of the year.

We loved, loved, loved seeing photos of visitors taking some time out to relax with the books. If you have any pictures of yourself in the Rebel Reading Zone, please do tag us via @rebelbookclub — we love to see it!

As a club, we aim to support people in creating and nurturing a strong reading habit. So we created some playful Rebel Reading Zone Rules in the style of ‘Fight Club’. These encouraged visitors to disconnect from their phones, aim for a ‘ Pomodoro ‘ style 20 minutes of focussed reading time, and then to use the book inserts to come away from their reading session with an insight they could take into their lives and turn into positive action.

Some context for anyone new to Rebel Book Club who has found themselves on this blog: one of our core values is to help our members get more from nonfiction by turning insight into action. Be that in their own lives, or by using insights from nonfiction to support their communities and the world around them.

If you missed our popup in January, you can catch up now. Below are the inserts we slipped into each book. You can right-click to download the cards you’re interested in. You can also purchase the books — whilst also supporting independent bookshops — using our bookshop.org reading list via the button below.

Mo Gawdat’s ‘Solve for Happy: Engineer Your Path To Joy’ | February 2022

One of the books recommended by one of our members for our Ducie Street Warehouse popup was Mo Gawdat’s ‘ Solve For Happy ‘, which has now become our Rebel Book Club read for February 2022.

Our members voted for Mo’s book from a shortlist of 3 nonfiction books for our February theme, ‘Happy’. Other books on the shortlist were, Steven Bartlett’s ‘ Happy, Sexy, Millionaire’ and Gretchin Rubin’s ‘ The Happiness Project ‘.

Throughout February we are aiming to spread happiness collectively as a club. We’re doing this by following the steps in Mo’s book and getting creative with how we put Mo’s work into action. Watch this space for a rundown of how it goes…

Or, better still, join us to take part in our club fun and games!

We offer 3 membership options to suit your lifestyle:

Full, Flex or Flirt…

So come on in and join the fun!
